OTART OR REASON REGAINED

POLISH TITLE: TOTART CZYLI ODZYSKIWANIE ROZUMU

Full of energy, the film is a dynamic account of Totart, an artistic group from Gdańsk. In the drabness of the mid 1980s young people from Gdansk initiated a number of artistic activities, including happenings and performances. The main character in the film is Zbigniew Sajnóg, an unofficial leader of Totart and the ideologue who stood behind the surreal and anarchistic projects developed by the group. From a broader perspective, Bartosz Paduch’s film is a story of the last rebels fighting against the greyness of communist Poland as well as a story about the roots of Polish popular culture.
