"DOMINO EFFECT" AWARDED IN KOSOVO

The film "Domino Effect" made by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski was awarded by the jury of DokuFest in Kosovo. The festival ended on 24 August.

The documentary "Domino Effect" by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr Rosołowski was chosen the International Documentary Competition / Feature Dox – Winner at the 13th edition of Kosovar film festival DokuFest. The jury, consisting of Neil Young, Sergio Oksman, David Fisher, Marion Döring and Vassily Bourikas, justified their verdict in the following way: "The 2014 prize goes to a film that reminds us that, in the field of documentary, issues of access are often the crucial element in the ultimate artistic triumph. We were impressed by the sensitivity and tact with which the real lives of the protagonists are brought to the screen, illustrating romantic love between two individuals that casts a light on the complex relationship between two nations."

"Domino Effect" is the story of Rafael and Natasha, who begin their life together on the ruins of a state which has nor even been born yet. He is the minister of sport of the Republic of Abkhazia, not recognised by other states, and she is a Russian opera singer. For Rafael, Natasha abandoned her career and family in Russia. However, living in a country not recognised virtually by anyone, marked with civil war and completely dependent on Russia's whims, quickly ceases to be a romantic adventure. Just like as in a chain reaction when one event launches a series of following events, the fates of the protagonists are intertwined with the course of history.

The DokuFest festival, organised for the 13th time, was held in the city of Prizren, Kosovo, from 16 to 24 August. The full list of the award-winning films at the festival can be found here.
