SUPPORT "SOMETHING BETTER TO COME" ON ITS ROAD FOR THE ACADEMY AWARD
A crowdfunding action on the platform Kickstarter has just began. Its aim is to collect funds for the Academy Award promotion of the film "Something Better To Come" by Hanna Polak.
Hanna Polak has already been nominated for the Academy Award. In 2004, her film "The Children of Leningradsky," made together with Andrzej Celiński, competed for the statuette in the short documentary film category. Now, she again has a chance to win the Academy Award, for the film "Something Better To Come".
"Something better to come" tells a story of an 11-year-old Jula, who lives on the Svalka, the largest dumping ground in Europe, 20 km away from the centre of Moscow. The area, surrounded by a wall and controlled by the guards, is supposed to be free from all kinds of intruders. However, there is a small group of people who live there and make a small community, deprived of the rights. These people are Jula's closest family. She leads her life here, and here Jula dreams about future far away from the dumping ground.
The documentary film has already won twenty one awards at international festivals, among others, Jury's Special Award at IDFA in Amsterdam, Grand Prix at the Art Doc Fest in Moscow, Alpe Adria Cinema Award in Trieste, Special Mention at Zagreb Dox, Viktor at Dok.fest in Munich and the Audience Award in Parnu, Estonia.
Now, in order to get the Academy Award nomination, the film needs publicity in the USA, so that it would be noticed by the audience, film critics, and, above all, the Academy members. All the funds collected during the Kickstarter action will be used for the promotional campaign: organising of screenings (among others, two key ones in New York and Los Angeles) and winning the attention of the media. Money will also allow Hanna Polak to travel in order to personally tell about her work on the film after the screenings.
On November 27, "Something Better To Come" appears on the screens of Polish cinemas.
