MARCEL ŁOZIŃSKI - THE WINNER OF THE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING AT THE 23RD CAMERIMAGE IFF
The Award for Outstanding Achievements in Documentary Filmmaking at the upcoming 23rd CAMERIMAGE International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography in Bydgoszcz will be presented to Marcel Łoziński, a documentary film director, lecturer of the DOK PRO programme at the Wajda School. There will be also a short retrospective of the director's work at the festival.
The Award for the Outstanding Achievements in Documentary Filmmaking has been given at CAMERIMAGE since 2008 - its first winner was the co-creator of Polish documentary school, the director of "The Musicians," Kazimierz Karabasz. The award for Marcel Łoziński is the second time in the history of the award when it is given to a Polish documentary film maker. So far, the winners of this award were, among others, Joan Churchill, Steven Okazaki and Albert Maysles.
In the press release published on the occasion of announcing the name of this year's award winner, we can read:
Łoziński knows how to put a cat among the pigeons (in Witnesses and Katyń Forest he confronted people with historical crimes) and present the susceptibility of the documentary genre to manipulation (in Workshop Exercises he revealed how to introduce propaganda in montage). He shot metaphoric documentary films operating with image and character (89mm from Europe, nominated for an Oscar, indirectly presented the differences between the East and the West), but he also did not shun the appeal and strength of simplicity (in Anything Can Happen he sent his resolute son to talk to the elderly, creating a painfully honest masterpiece about life and death). . (...).Łoziński can actually be a guide to our chaotic reality but first and foremost he strives to be the viewer’s partner, always curious about the world and the mechanisms that put it into motion.
