POLISH PROJECTS AT EAST DOC PLATFORM 2017
On March 6, started East Doc Platform - the industry event dedicated to supporting the production of documentary films at various stages of development. This year, Polish projects are included in three programmes: East European Forum, Project Market and Czech Docs.
East Doc Platform is an industry event, dedicated to documentary film, organised by the Institute of Documentary Film in Prague, accompanying the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival.
The sixth edition of the event is held from March 6-12, 2017. During the event, numerous awards are given, including the East Doc Platform Award, amounting to 7500 Euro. It will go to the best project at the development stage from among all participating in East Doc Platform.
This year, six Polish projects qualified for the events held within the frames of East Doc Platform.
EAST EUROPEAN FORUM
East European Forum is an event created for producers who are working on projects at the development or production stage and are looking for a source of financing. Within the frames of East European Forum, five-day workshops will be held, as well as pitchings, one-to-one meetings and discussions.
20 projects are invited to this year's edition. Among the selected productions, there is the film "The Wall of Shadows," directed by Eliza Kubarska. It is the story of a family who, in spite of the prevailing taboo, decides to climb one of the sacred mountains. Another film which qualified for the same programme is the project "Good Change" by Konrad Szołajski, portraying the changes in Poland which occurred after the victory of Law and Justice, and the social opposition against them.
PROJECT MARKET
Project Market is a two-day film market, created in order to facilitate contact between documentary film-makers and the decision-makers from film festivals, television channels, film funds, distribution companies etc. The market is held on the basis of one-to-one meetings, scheduled before the event, and it is open to film projects at every stage of film-making.
This year, Project Market is held from 9 to 10 March, and 18 projects are invited to participate in it, including three which are Polish productions or co-productions. "Border Cut" by Igor Chojna is the story about a village in Poland which has the highest concentration of hairdressing salons in the world. So far, the village served mainly regular customers from Germany, but slowly there are fewer and fewer of them. The second project in this programme is "The Village of Swimming Cows" by Katarzyna Trzaska, in which we get acquainted with the story of the fans of ecology and alternative lifestyle who decide to stay for longer in Biebrza National Park. The third Polish production in Project Market is "All Inclusive" by Mateusz Romaszkan and Marta Wójtowicz-Wcisło - a portrait of contemporary society that, while travelling, concentrates primarily on recording its foreign journeys "as a keepsake."
CZECH DOCS
The Polish-Czech co-production, "Pepik The Czech Goes To Poland In A Quest For Love Of God" by Vit Klusák and Filip Remund will participate in Czech Docs. It is a presentation of projects, the aim of which is to promote them in the festival and distribution market.
In addition, during East Doc Platform, one can watch as many as 50 Polish documentary films in the video collection: East Silver Library. These include, among others, "The Internal Ear" by Magdalena Gubała and Szymon Uliasz, "Daniel" by Anastazja Dąbrowska, "Zud" by Marta Minorowicz and "The Gift" by Przemysław Kamiński.
