TWO POLISH FILMS AWARDED IN RUSSIA

On the 26th of November ended the festival Breaking Down Barriers in Moscow; among the award-winning films, there are two Polish productions: "Two Worlds" by Maciej Adamek and "By Stanley from Stanley" by Monika Meleń.

At the International Disability Film Festival "Breaking Down Barriers" in Moscow, which took place from the 23rd to the 26th of November, several dozen of feature, documentary and animated films related to disability were presented.

Two Polish films returned from the festival with awards. "Two Worlds" by Maciej Adamek won the best short documentary film award. The film has already been shown at about 90 festivals and film reviews around the world and won over 20 awards (among others at the Rhode Island Film Festival, the Chicago Children’s Film Festival, the Harlem Film Festival, the United Nations Association Film Festival, the Wales International Documentary Festival, the New York Film Festivals and Tv Award, the Greenpoint Film Festival, the FaitoDOC Festival and the Jakarta International Film Festival).

"Two Worlds " is a portrait of a family in which the parents are deaf, and their daughter Laura can hear. It is the 12-year-old Laura who is our guide through their lives. Non-typical life, but at the same time ordinary one like the life of every family.

The second production awarded at the festival is "By Stanley for Stanley" by Monika Meleń. The documentary film was given the most life-affirming film award.

The film's protagonist is Stanisław, who is a painter, but at the same time, the co-author of the film’s message, which he addresses to Staś, several dozen years his junior. The recordings, made in a very intimate environment, are not only a testament to the unusual way of communication between people affected by a similar disability but also a lesson on the most ordinary everyday issues: the manner of dress or the reactions towards intolerance against people with disabilities.
