“JUDGES UNDER PRESSURE” PREMIERES AT IDFA FESTIVAL
The new film by Kacper Lisowski will be presented as part of IDFA's prestigious Frontlight section. It will be the world premiere of the document.
The International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam is the largest and one of the most important documentary festivals in the world. Each year it attracts more than 280,000 visitors, including more than 3000 guests from the documentary industry, and the films shown at IDFA often become festival favourites later. This year, IDFA will be held on 17–28 November.
The Frontlight section, in which the latest film by Kacper Lisowski will be presented, consists entirely of premiering films. It will also mark the world premiere of Judges Under Pressure.
Judges Under Pressure tells the story of unwavering judges who defend the Constitution and the separation of powers. One of them is judge Igor Tuleya, who – against external pressure – passes verdicts unfavourable for the government. This makes him enemy number one for the authorities and the face of judicial rebellion for protesting citizens. The film shows the consequences of his uncompromising attitude. We look at the effects political pressure has on his life. At the same time, we are witnessing the extraordinary solidarity shown by both judges and ordinary citizens. Meanwhile the rule of law in Poland is being dismantled in plain sight. Following the ruling of the politicised Constitutional Tribunal on abortion, Poland sees the largest wave of social unrest in its history. Judges take to the streets to stand shoulder to shoulder with citizens in defence of the rule of law.
The program of this year's IDFA also includes two other Polish productions – Paweł Łoziński's The Balcony Movie and Tomasz Wolski's 1970. You can read more about it here.
