"In 'Trains', I often built the higher levels of meaning not within individual episodes, but in the transitions between them. It is in those passages, between sequences, that new resonances emerged. From archival fragments--often incomplete, ambiguous--I constructed a new world. The process resembled, in some ways, the creation of a fiction film: it was an act of invention".
