“CHILD OF DUST” WINS THE AUDIENCE AWARD AT THE CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The documentary “Child of Dust”, directed by Weronika Mliczewska, has won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 61st Chicago International Film Festival. This marks another success for the film, following its recent Audience Award at the Chania Film Festival in Greece, received just a few days earlier.

The prestigious Chicago International Film Festival, established in 1964, is the longest-running film festival in North America. Renowned for its dedication to artistic excellence, the festival has discovered and introduced numerous major figures in world cinema – including Martin Scorsese, Wim Wenders, and Krzysztof Kieślowski. This year’s 61st edition featured the U.S. premiere of “Child of Dust”, attended by the director and the film’s protagonist, Sang.

The documentary tells Sang Thanh Ngô’s remarkable story. As one of many children abandoned after the Vietnam War, Sang eventually finds his ailing American father. He travels to the United States to fulfill a lifelong dream of meeting him, confronting questions about what home, family, and identity truly mean.

Since its world premiere at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival in March, Mliczewska’s film has been presented at numerous festivals around the globe. At the Krakow Film Festival, it won the Golden Horn for Best Documentary Feature, which qualified it for a shortened path toward Academy Award consideration, as we wrote about here.
