MAY FESTIVALS

Last days of May is the time when the 53rd edition of Krakow Film Festival is held. There are 23 Polish documentaries in its competitive sections. That’s not all though – in May Polish documentary films will be screened at fourteen other festivals.

The month will begin with 59th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen where, in the competitive section, “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski will be screened. That’s not the only screening of Ziemilski’s film this month. “Rogalik” will compete for awards at Human Rights Film Festival taking place in Barcelona, New York and Paris and one of its competitors will be “Freestyle life” by Adam Palenta. In the competition of 16th Brooklyn Film Festival Ziemilski’s documentary will rival “Exit point” by Jagoda Szelc, among others.

"Rogalik" has also been qualified to the competitive section of Doxa Documentary Film Festival in Canada. Other Polish titles in the same competition are: „18 kg” by Kacper Czubak, „The Palace” by Tomasz Wolski and „Camp” by Tomasz Jeziorski. The latter has a chance for awards also in Madrid, where it will be shown in the competition of Documenta Madrid film festival and in Moldavia, where it forms part of the programme of the 11th International Documentary Film Festival Cronograf.

In Ireland, at Guth Gafa Film Festival „Resettlement” by Filip Malinowski will compete for awards. “The Whistle” by Grzegorz Zariczny will have opportunity to be awarded with another American prize – it will be screened in the competition of Berkshire International Film Festival. The film will also have a special screening at Reykjavik Shorts&Docs Festival in Iceland.

„My house without me” by Magdalena Szymków and „Paparazzi” by Piotr Bernaś will be shown in Eastern Europe. “My house without me” has been selected to take part in the competitive section of Almaty International Film Festival Shaken’s Stars in Kazakhstan and “Paparazzi” – in the competition of Kyiv International Documentary Film Festival "Kinolitopys-2013" in Ukraine.

At the end of the month „The Argentinean lesson” by Wojciech Staroń will be screened in the competition of Millenium International Documentary Film Festival in Belgium, „Paper box” by Zbigniew Czapla – in the competition of 10th VIS Vienna Independent Shorts Festival and “Man at war” by Jacek Bławut in the non-competitive section of Transilvania International Film Festival in Romania.

As many as 23 Polish documentary films will compete for prizes in the National Competition of 53rd Krakow Film Festival. Six of them will have a chance to be awarded in international competitions. In the Short Films Competition „Kiedy będę ptakiem” by Monika Pawluczuk and „Mother 24/7” by Marcin Janos Krawczyk will be screened.”Father and Son on a Journey” by Marcel Łoziński, „Father and son” by Paweł Łoziński, „A diary of a journey” by Piotr Stasik” and „The lust killer” by Marcin Koszałka have been selected to take part in the Documentary Competition.
