„ROGALIK” AWARDED AT DOKUMENTART
This year’s, the 22nd edition of the DokumentArt festival, held simultaneously in Szczecin and Neubrandenburg reached the end last Tuesday. Among the awarded films was one made in Poland that sees its films awarded at the festival almost every year.
During the 22nd edition of DokumentArt the audience and festival guests watched three Polish short films – “My house without me” by Magdalena Szymków, “The princess and the wall” by Małgorzata Kozera and “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski. Among those three titles it was the latter that won the recognition of the Student Union Greifswald that decided to award Ziemilski’s documentary. On announcing the verdict the union’s representatives noted the following:A floating camera movement through rooms that seem like a labyrinth. One gets an insight into the life and world of different people. A young generation escapes the sadness of everyday life through different media like music, TV, PC’s and technical toys. All these media cause an irreconcilable isolation but also lead to a desired parallel world in space and time that these young people want to escape to. This psychological landscape is enhanced through tunnel like camera movements, numerous reflections and rigid portraits. Without having achieved anything the people in the village are left alone.
Ziemilski made his documentary while studying at Polish National Film School in Łódź. So far the film has screened at nearly 30 international film festivals among them such a prestigious ones as Oberhausen, Hot docs, IDFA or Karlovy Vary. In November the film is scheduled to screen at Spanish AlCine, Italian Ozu IFF and German DOXS.
