THE FILM "TO FLY OR NOT TO FLY" AWARDED IN VIENNA
Vienna Independent Shorts ended on May 29th. The main award in the International Competition was given to the film "Fly or not to fly" by Aniela Gabryel.
This year, Short Film Festival Vienna Independent Shorts was held for the eleventh time. This edition was particularly successful for Aniela Gabryel, whose short documentary "To Fly Or Not To Fly" was given the main award in the Fiction and Documentary International Competition.
Jury consisting of Carmen Gray, Matt Porterfield, Amina Handke explained its verdict in the following way: "It surprised us with its moments of absurd humour and surreal beauty, and the subtle, unexpected way in which it portrayed humans relating to nature and each other. It also impressed us by skilfully balancing exposition and mystery. We’d be really interested to see more from this filmmaker."
The protagonists of "To Fly Or Not To Fly" are bird researchers, working in the forests on the narrow strip of land between sea and lake, who want to describe the extraordinary beauty of the wild nature. They set out on their expeditions regardless of unfavourable weather and difficult conditions.
