After being awarded at the IDFA festival, where the world première of the film took place, "Something better to come" was awarded by the jury of the Art Doc Fest documentary film festival in Moscow. The documentary won the Grand Prix of the festival, in this way beating twenty other films participating in the festival competitive section. The festival was held from 9 to 17 December.
The protagonist of "Something better to come" is 11-year-old Yula. She lives in one of the most desolate places on Earth: the Svalka, the biggest junkyard in Europe, 20 km outside the center of Moscow. Surrounded by barbed wire and guards, the area is closely monitored to keep intruders out. But in the junkyard lives a group of people in a small, lawless society. These people make up Yula’s closest family; here she lives her life, and from here her future springs.
