POLISH FILMS IN COMPETITION AT CERMONT FERRAND
At the beginning of this week the organisers of French festival in Clermont Ferrand announced the results of this year’s selection. There are four Polish films among those invited to screen as a part of the competitive sections.
Two Polish animated films – “An incredibly elastic man” by Karolina Specht and “Hippos” by Piotr Dumała will compete for the laurels of the International Competion, which is the core of the festival and every year raises the biggest interest among the audience. This year 79 films produced all over the world will screen as a part of the competition. Both “An incredibly elastic man” (prod. Polish National Film School in Łódź) and “Hippos” (Fumi Studio) already screened abroad and were given several awards.
The second Polish competitor is a documentary “An Object” by Paulina Skibińska. This is the first screening abroad for the film that shows the work of group of professional divers. In Clermont Ferrand the film will screen as a part of the LABO competition that features experimental films. Skibińska’s documentary was made as a part of the First Documentary programme carried out by Munk Studio operating within the Association of Polish Filmmakers.
There will also be a Polish hint to the National competition. A French - Polish coproduction “A Blue room” by Tomasz Siwiński was selected to as one of the 58 films to compete for the laurels. Siwiński’s animation - screened and awarded all around the world - is a poignant portrait of the man trapped in the eponymous blue room. Film was produced by Sacrebleu Productiins and Se-ma-for Productions.
The festival in Clermont-Ferrand is one of the world’s top festivals that screen short films. Every year it is accompanied by the film market bringing to France huge community of short film professionals. The 37th edition of the festival will be held between 30th January and 7th February.
