DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVALS IN NOVEMBER
In November, there are a lot of screenings in store for Polish documentary films, including premières. It is the month when such events like the festival DOK Leipzig and IDFA are held, as well as other international festivals, at which you can watch Polish productions.
In Turkey, the Central European Film Festival V4 lasts almost all month long; at this festival, Polish documentary films made a couple of years ago will be shown to the audience. It would be an opportunity to watch the film "Music" by Agnieszka Gonczarek and Patryk Kizna, "Viva Maria!" by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, "Loneliness of Sound" by Jacek Piotr Bławut and "Ghetto Gospel" by Jakub Radej.
DOK Leipzig Festival started on the last day of October. This year, a strong representation of Polish productions will appear in Leipzig: seven films will vie in the competitions, eight will appear in the non-competing sections, and twenty-seven will be shown in a special retrospective. In the international feature-length documentary and animated film competition, the film "Communion" by Anna Zamecka will compete, whereas the following films are invited to the short film competition: "Close Ties" by Zofia Kowalewska and "Three Conversations on Life" by Julia Staniszewska. In the international programme for feature-length documentary and animated films, there are three Polish productions: "21 x New York" by Piotr Stasik, "Intensity of Watching" by Andrzej Sapija and "Two Worlds" by Maciej Adamek. The last of the aforementioned films will also be shown in the section Kids DOK, together with the film "Daniel" by Anastazja Dąbrowska. In Leipzig, you can also watch "Patriotic Lesson" by Filip Jacobson and the animated documentary film "The Gentle Giant" by Marcin Podolec. You can read more about Polish films at DOK Leipzig here.
In October, started Chicago International Children's Film Festival, where "Two Worlds" by Maciej Adamek is invited to the competition. In November, this documentary film will be also present at the festival in St. Louis in the USA, at the documentary films for children and youth festival - Doxs! in Germany and at the festival DokumentART. There, apart from "Two Worlds," the film "Marina" by Marcin Lesisz will be shown, as well as "Second Life" by Eugeniusz Pankow and "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec. This month, the animated film by Marcin Podolec will also appear at the festival Big Cartoon in Russia and at the International Children's and Youth Film Festival in Finland.
At the beginning of the month, in South Korea in the competition at Asiana International Short Film Festival, the film "Before the Dawn" by Łukasz Borowski is included, in Albania, at Tirana International Film Festival, "Football Brothers" by Marcin Filipowicz will compete for the award, whereas at the festival Alcine 46 in Spain, the film "Second Life" by Eugeniusz Pankov will appear. Also in November, at the festival Ride On in Belgium, you can see "Little Big Team," whereas at the festival Cottbus, the film "Morgenrot" by Michał Korchowiec will have its international première.
In Belarus, at the festival Listapad, the films "21 x New York" and "Communion" will be shown once again this month. These two documentary films will also be shown at the festival Camerimage. The documentary film will appear at Dharamshala International Film Festival in India and at Kassel Documentary and Video Festival in Germany. There, "Love, love" by Grzegorz Zariczny will also be included in the competition.
Two Polish documentary films are invited to the programme of the festival Escales Documentaries. In France, you can watch "Object" by Paulina Skibińska and "Piano" by Vita Maria Drygas. In the middle of the month, the film "Monk of the Sea" by Rafał Skalski will participate in the competition at Cork Film Festival in Ireland.
November ends with the festival IDFA in the Netherlands. In Amsterdam, five Polish films will compete for the awards in the competition sections, and three will be shown in the non-competing sections. The film "You Have No Idea How Much I Love You" by Paweł Łoziński and the documentary film "Icon" by Wojciech Kasperski are invited to the Feature-Length Competition. The selection panel qualified three Polish films to the Best Student Documentary Film Competition: "Daniel" by Anastazja Dąbrowska, "Close Ties" by Zofia Kowalewska and "When Will This Wind Stop" by Aniela Astrid Gabryel. In the section Best of Fests, the documentary film "Communion" by Anna Zamecka will participate, whereas the film "All these sleepless nights" by Michał Marczak will be included in the section Paradocs, and "Right Side of Cello" by Aleksandra Rek is invited to the music documentary film programme.
