"THE WIND. A DOCUMENTARY THRILLER" IN COMPETITION AT VISIONS DU REEL!

On 11 March the programme of the Swiss festival Visions du Réel was announced. Michał Bielawski's film "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" was invited to the International Feature Film Competition.

Visions du Réel is one of Europe's most important documentary film festivals. It has been organised in the city of Nyon in Switzerland since 1969. This year's edition takes place 5-13 April.

Polish-Slovak coproduction "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" directed by Maciej Kubicki and produced by Telemark was included in this year's programme. The documentary was invited to the International Feature Film Competition. The screening in Switzerland will be the world premiere of the film.

The documentary's protagonist is the Halny wind - one of the most unpredictable forces in Polish mountains. It appears each spring and autumn. You can never know if and when it will turn into a destructive windstorm. Halny affects especially people in Zakopane and surrounding areas where it turns picturesque mountain trails into nature's battlefield

The project of this documentary film was developed during numerous industry events. In 2015 it was presented at KFF Industry during Docs To Start pitch session which was a part of Doc Lab Poland programme. The project then won the DOK Leipzig award which led to it taking part in the Co-Pro coproduction market during the festival in Leipzig. In 2016 "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" took part in the Lisbon Docs coproduction forum in Portugal. In 2017 the project came back to Krakow for KFF Industry where it was presented during Docs To Go Doc Lab Poland pitch. That's where it won the Krakow Technology Park award. In January 2019 "The Wind..." was one of the five projects that were selected to take part in the Last Stop Trieste section of the When East Meet West coproduction forum in Trieste.
