TWO POLISH DOCUMENTARIES AWARDED AT GO SHORT

Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen finished last weekend. Two documentaries - "Love 404" by Agata Baumgart and "Dam" by Natalia Koniarz - came back from Holland with awards.

On 6 April the Go Short award ceremony took place in Nijmegen. Short documentary "Love 404" was chosen the Best Documentary of this edition of the festival.

For the protagonists of "Love 404" - teenage Rena and her mother - the internet is the only break from the daily grind. In the world of talent shows, Facebook and YouTube, love and fame are in the keyboard's reach, but the line between fantasy and reality quickly becomes a fine one.

The other awarded Polish films was "Dam" by Natalia Koniarz. The documentary received the Encouragement Award for the best student film.

Two protagonists of "Dam" are a father and a son who meet again, after they broke off contact in the past, to spend some time together. It is not, however, a carefree weekend in a cottage in the Bieszczady mountains. The drunk father poses a rhetorical question: "What, you thought it's gonna be easy?". Building a dam on a mountain stream can be interpreted as an attempt to overcome their own weakness and a joint effort to combat prejudices and mutual resentments. In a pool created this way they can come clean and find a (temporary) consolation.
