IDFA ANNOUNCES A PART OF ITS PROGRAMME. "THE TOUGH" IN THE BEST OF FEST SECTION

The organisers of the festival IDFA are steadily building up tension. Another part of the programme has just been announced, in which there is a place for Polish production.

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam IDFA is the largest and one of the most important documentary film festivals in the world. Every year, it attracts over 280 thousand viewers, including over 3000 guests from the documentary film industry, and the films shown at the IDFA often become festival favourites later on. This year, the IDFA is held from the 20th of November to the 1st of December.

This week, we got acquainted with the rest of the films which will be shown in the non-competing sections. One of them contains a short documentary film by Marcin Polar. "The Tough" will be shown within the frames of the section Best of Fest, to which the most interesting documentary films, recently screened and awarded at international festivals, are invited.

"The Tough" had its world premiere in the short film competition at Sundance FFand was screened at many major international film festiwals all over the world, like   Durban International FF in South Africa, Odense International Film Festival in Denmark, Encounters ISFF in UK, Sapporo Short FF in Japan, DC Shorts in USA, as well as in the international competition of the Krakow Film Festival.

The Tough carries a lot of meanings: defiant, vicious, resistive, relentless, strong, resilient, cold, hard. There was a reason why the film's protagonist called his discovery just like this - it is a place which he has to face and whose every feature he can feel quite tangibly and literally on his own skin. It rouses his imagination and pushes him forward in an uncouth and obsessive way. Step by step, the camera participates, together with him, in the exploration of the places hitherto unknown to humankind, which offer increasingly stronger resistance against the delicate human substance.

More info can be found on the festival's website. The final selection will be announced next week.
