ELWIRA NIEWIERA WINS “CHICKEN&EGG” AWARD
The excellent Polish documentary filmmaker Elwira Niewiera is one of the six winners of this year's Chicken & Egg Award.
Chicken & Egg Award is an annual event honouring and supporting women and non-binary persons in the film industry. The award is handed out to six documentary filmmakers from all over the world. The winners receive a $50,000 grant and attend a one-year mentoring course that will contribute to their further careers.
This year the award went to Loira Limbal, Tatiana Huezo, Cristina Ibarra, Jialing Zhang, Maryam Ebrahim, and Elwira Niewiera.
The Polish director has multiple accolades under her belt. “The Prince and the Dybbuk”, made together with Piotr Rosołowski, had its premiere in Venice and already came back with the Classics Award for Best Documentary.It was screened, among others, at IDFA, Hot Docs in Canada, Minsk International Film Festival “Listapad”, Docs Parcelona, Kosovo's Dokufest, and ZagrebDox. Her previous film, “Domino Effect” was featured at over 50 international film festivals, including such prestigious events as IDFA Amsterdam, Hot Docs, or the MoMA Documentary Forthnight New York. “Domino Effect” won numerous awards, including the Golden Dove at MFF DOK Leipzig in 2014 and the Golden Horn for the Best Film in the International Competition at the 54th Krakow Film Festival. The film was also distributed in art-house cinemas in Germany, Poland, and Switzerland. Elwira Niewiera is a member of the Polish Film Academy.
