POLISH PROJECT AWARDED AT DOK.INCUBATOR WORKSHOP
Awards have just been given out at the recently concluded DOK.incubator workshop, and one of them went to Łukasz Kowalski, the director of “The Pawnshop”.
DOK.Incubator is an intensive six-month international workshop on film editing, marketing, and distribution. The workshop is divided into three weekly sessions: the first will be held in the Czech Republic at the end of April, another in Slovakia in June, and the last in Sweden in September.
This year, eight projects were selected to participate in DOK.Incubator.One of the qualifying productions is Łukasz Kowalski's “The Pawnshop”.
The film stars Jola and Wiesiek – a pair of entrepreneurs who run the largest pawnshop in southern Poland. It was a very profitable business in the past, but not anymore. Financial problems start to take their toll on their relationship. The documentary is produced by Anna Mazerant. It is made for 4.30 Studio, and co-produced by Silesia Film.
The film was first presented during the KFF Industry in Doc Lab Poland program in 2019. It was then that the documentary received an honourable mention and a prize in the form of an invitation to the 2020 edition of East Doc Platform in Prague. Earlier it was developed as part of the Dok.Pro course at the Wajda School 2018/2019 and participated in KIPA's Accelerator (Polish Audiovisual Producers Chamber of Commerce acceleration project) in 2019. Production is expected to end in June of this year.
