DOCUMENTARY BY SERGEI LOZNITZA WITH TOMASZ WOLSKI'S EDITING AWARDED IN CANNES
Tomasz Wolski was responsible for editing Sergei Łoźnica's latest film. “Babi Yar. Context” was presented in the Special Screenings section and received a special mention from the l’Œil d’Or jury.
Cannes Film Festival is one of the most important and prestigious film events in the world. Every year, the selection committee receives a record number of submissions for each section. Thousands of talented filmmakers dream of showing their film on the Cote d'Azur.
“Babi Yar. Context” is the second Cannes documentary, after Andrea Arnold's “Cow” (learn more about it here), produced by established foreign directors in cooperation with Polish filmmakers. In the case of the latest film by Sergei Łoźnica, the excellent Polish documentary filmmaker Tomasz Wolski was responsible for editing.
The awarded film presents the dramatic events that took place on 29-30 September 1941 in the titular Babi Yar in Ukraine. More than 30,000 Jews were shot there. The film attempts to reconstruct those events using archival materials.
