“RUST” WINS SPECIAL MENTION IN ITALY
The documentary by Rafał Małecki was recognised by the jury of the River Film Festival in Italy.
River Film Festival was founded 15 years ago in Padua, Italy. Each year the event is gaining notoriety and recognition among audiences thirsting for great Italian and international animated, documentary, and short films.
This year's program featured Rafał Matecki's documentary. This intimate portrait of the sculptor Mariola Wawrzusiak-Borcz was recognised by the jury and honoured with a special mention. The artist and heroine of “Rust”, together with her faithful dog, travels through post-industrial areas in search of scrap metal, which she uses for her art. Welding them, she creates disturbing sculptures of animals, androids, and children affected by war. She pursuits the irresistible need to create despite a troublesome hand disorder. When the air quality in the city worsens, she goes to a lake far away from civilization with her family to wait out the catastrophe hanging in the air and be closer to nature.
