“CHILD OF DUST” BY WERONIKA MLICZEWSKA IN COMPETITION AT DCIFF IN WASHINGTON
Recently nominated for the Polish Film Awards (Eagles) in the Best Documentary Film category, “Child of Dust” directed by Weronika Mliczewska continues its intensive festival journey. The documentary has been selected for the International Competition of the DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) in Washington, D.C., where it will be screened on February 14 and 15.
At the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, the screenings will be attended by director Weronika Mliczewska and production manager Hania Drewek.
The Washington-based festival is supporting the film’s U.S. impact campaign, initiating a broader discussion on American migration policy and deportations linked to ICE operations. Post-screening panel discussions will feature immigration law specialists as well as Supporting Producers from the NGO Father Founded – Angela Simmons-Jones and Marna Klump – whose involvement was instrumental in locating Sang’s father, the film’s main protagonist.
“Child of Dust” tells Sang’s story. He is one of hundreds of thousands of children left behind in Vietnam by American soldiers after the war. When his lifelong dream of finding his father finally comes true, Sang embarks on a dramatic race against time, attempting to break the intergenerational cycle of war trauma. Although he manages to travel to the United States, he does so without his wife, daughter, and beloved grandson. Reuniting with his father becomes a healing experience for both – yet far from a simple one. Fifty years after the last American soldier left Vietnam, many wounds remain open.
To date, the film has been selected for 38 festivals worldwide.
