ONLINE EDN SESSION WITH ‘PAPARAZZI’s DIRECTOR – PIOTR BERNAŚ

Piotr Bernaś – the director of documentary ‘Paparazzi’ nominated for European Film Awards will be available at online session organized by European Documentary Network on 8th of November.

Produced by Wajda Studio, the documentary by Piotr Bernaś tells the inside story of the controversial and criticised profession of the paparazzo. Danish critic Steffen Moestrup writes in the DOX that Piotr Bernaś's film is different from other documentaries dealing with the paparazzo profession:‘The Polish production not only uses dynamic cinematography that reflects an ordinary day in the life of a paparazzo, with all its pressures and inner fever, but it also focuses on its protagonist’.

The European Film Academy Award jury's verdict justified the prize for the film at Krakow Film Festival, stating that 'the Polish film 'Paparazzi' follows the work of a professional doing the dirty job of a tabloid press photographer, and at the same time deals with the soul of a man facing the cruel, contemporary reality of history and the minor facts of life. After this film there is a good chance that Polański will allow the photographer to take his picture.'

So far, besides the nomination for the European Film Award granted at the 51st Krakow Film Festival, the documentary has also received nominations for the Silver Eye (East Silver Market, Czech Republic) and has been selected for the IDFA International Documentary Film Festival, Amsterdam 2011, where the film will have its premiere.

‘Paparazzi’ has been recently attached as an insert to the prestigious international magazine ‘Dox’, which is issued by EDN.

'Paparazzi' is Bernas’s film debut. For many years Piotr Bernaś worked as the war photographer. This time, he found himself on the other side. Asked about his protagonist and his work, he answers: ‘Did I let myself be fooled? Did I want to be fooled? The uncertainty about Przemek will remain with me until the end... But what remains there too is a belief in the good side of the man, and the possibility of his transformation.’

While ‘Paparazzi’ is a film about the world of lost values and twisted principles - it shows that there is always a chance to decide what kind of man you will be tomorrow.

EDN - European Documentary Network is a global network for professionals working with documentary film and TV, based in Denmark.
