At the recently finished 3rd edition of Ekran Toronto Polish Film Festival, Jakub Cuman was awarded with Michał Maryniarczyk Award for his film "The Contest". The film was produced in "Studio Munka", which works within the structures of Polish Filmmakers Association.
This year's edition of Ekran Toronto Polish Film Festival took place from 21st to 23rd October. Michał Maryniarczyk Award, funded by Teresa Maryniarczyk, was given for the second time. This year, the prize went to Jakub Cuman for his film "The Contest".
"The Contest" is a documentary observation made during the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition Preliminaries in 2010. It pictures the world of contestants' inner emotions. The documentary questions also the point of competition in art. Judged in the same categories as sport, art is deprived of its principal qualities such as intimacy, independence, and individuality.

Later on, he co-operated with TVP and TVN in creating television documentaries and short documentary forms. He also worked with Janusz Majewski on feature films: "Miłość w przejściu podziemnym" and "Mała Matura 1947". "The Contest" is his most recent documentary.
During the festival in Toronto, seven shorts were screened in the competition section, among others, "Three Mothers" by Rafał Sokołowski, "I Won't Be Here Tomorrow" by Julia Kolberger, "Vanishing" by Bartosz Kruhlik, "Frozen Stories" by Grzegorz Jaroszuk as well as Jakub Cuman's "The Contest".
