JANUSZ MROZOWSKI AWARDED IN BELFAST

13th edition of Belfast Film Festival ended on April 21st. The film “Bad boy – high security cell” by Janusz Mrozowski has been awarded in Belfast with the Maysles Brothers Award for the best documentary.

The documentary by Janusz Mrozowski has been screened in the Documentary Panorama section. Twenty documentaries from all around the world were shown in the panorama, six of which were taking part in the competition. Jury formed by a journalist Fionola Meredith and a documentary filmmaker David Barker has decided to award “Bad boy – high security cell” by Janusz Mrozowski with The Maysles Brothers Award – the main prize of the documentary competition. The director has received the award himself, giving his thanks to the Polish Penitantiary Service and to his main character– Damian.

In Mrozowski’s documentary in a period of 78 minutes, we get to know Damian, 28 years old, condemned to ten years in jail for armed bank robbery. His frank and truthful discussion, with himself and with the camera reveals his troubled inner world, his doubts but also his sensitivity and understanding, and with his tattooed arms he holds up a mirror to our society, and to ourselves.
