POLISH FILMS AT RAINDANCE FESTIVAL
This Wednesday in London the 21st edition of RAINDANCE International Film Festival is starting. The programme includes a big strand dedicated to the newest Polish cinema, presenting not only feature films and documentaries, but also short films.
This year’s edition of Raindance is special, as for the first time in its’ history, the organizers have created a special strand to present the newest Polish cinematography. The viewers will be able to see the most widely discussed titles of the last few months, like Władysław Pasikowski’s “Aftermath” and “The Girl From The Wardrobe” by Bodo Kox among many others. The feature film screenings will be preceded by short films, four of them altogether, the animated “Ab ovo” by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi, Tomek Popakul’s “Ziegenort” and “The End” by Ewa Chruściel, as well as the short fiction film “The Mother” by Łukasz Ostalski.The “Polish Films” strand is also going to provide the viewers with two Polish documentaries. First, the film “Love” by Filip Dzierżawski, a story of a jass group from Tricity, is going to have its’ international premiere in London. The second one is “The Lust Killer”, the newest documentary by Marcin Koszałka, a work about human passions based on the story of Joachim Knychała, a women murderer from Silesia. Both titles had their premieres this year at the 53rd edition of the Krakow Film Festival.
Martyna Szmytkowska and Dominika Akuszewska, directors of Raindance’s Polish Strand comment: “We wanted to convey the diverse pool of talent currently on offer in the Polish film industry. All the films in our programme are the product of acclaimed creative talent in the country and we are incredibly proud to work with Raindance this year to showcase the vision and skill of these artists on an international stage.”
What’s more, two Polish films have been listed for the competitive sections, the already mentioned Tomek Popakul’s “Ziegenort” is going to compete for the award for the best animated film and the fiction “The Big Leap” by Kristofem Rus is going to be shown in the international shorts competition.
Raindance, Europe’s leading independent film festival, takes place in London at Vue Cinema Piccadilly from 25th September – 6th October. It will host over 300 films and 40 events all designed to nurture, support and promote independent films and filmmakers from the UK and around the world.
