CREATIVE EUROPE SUPPORTS POLISH DOCUMENTARIES

We already know the selection results of the call for proposal "Development - single project" within the frames of the Creative Europe MEDIA programme. The grants were awarded to 26 documentary films, including two productions from Poland.

The aim of the MEDIA component is to support and promote European audiovisual culture, to increase the dissemination of European works, to professionalise the audiovisual sector and to help in facing the challenges of digital revolution and globalisation.

The grants within the frames of "Development - single project" are awarded to feature, documentary and animated films. This year, a total of 78 projects has been co-financed; this includes four Polish films, two out of which are creative documentaries.

The first one is the film produced by Arkana Studio Dorota Roszkowska - "Vistula Sunken Treasures." This creative documentary film is "about adventure journey in the past and facing the myth of sunken treasures." In the film, 2D animation will be used, as well as staging which will allow to discover the history of the treasures from the times of the Swedish Deluge. The film is directed by Marcin Jamkowski and Konstanty Kulik.

The second project is "The wind," directed by Michał Bielawski, and production is the responsibility of Maciej Kubicki, Telemark. The film documents halny (a foehn wind), the most unpredictable, though at the same time, the most repetitive element of life in Podhale.  Its coming is preceded by nervousness, increase in heart diseases and aggression.  Every few months, the wind reminds humankind about its place in confrontation with the powers of nature. "The Wind" is a documentary story about change and encounter with the power of nature. From the choir moved by the wind emerge the portraits of the people living in the mountains, exceptional places and various ideas about how to live. The project participated in the DOC LAB POLAND programme, when  - after the presentation at Docs to Start pitching session held during the Krakow FF, it was given the award enabling it to take part in Cooproduction Meeting  at the currently ongoing festival DOK.Leipzig.

Both films received funding amounting to 25 000 Euro.
