"BROTHERS" WITH SPECIAL MENTION AT CAMERIMAGE
On November 21, there was the festive closing gala of the 23rd edition of the International Film Festival Camerimage. Special Mention in the Feature Length Documentary Film Competition went to the film "Brothers" by Wojciech Staroń.
One of the highlights in the programme of the documentary section "Image of the World - World in Images," organised within the frames of the Camerimage festival, is the Feature Length Documentary Film Competition.
The aim of the competition is to appreciate the genre of documentary film as a creative interpretation of reality. Putting special emphasis on the visual and aesthetic aspect of the work, the jury evaluates the best achievements in the art of film images, giving awards to the best authors of cinematography in the documentary films which qualified for the competition.
This year, twelve documentary films from around the world qualified for this festival section. Special Mention was awarded to the film "Brothers." Wojciech Staroń is not only the director of the film, but he is the author of the cinematography as well. The documentary film "Call Me Marianna" by Karolina Bielawska with cinematography by Kacper Czubak also participated in the competition.
The film by Wojciech Staroń tells about two brothers, who manage to escape from the Soviet work camp, but they cannot escape from each other. They love but at the same time hate each other. One - a dreamer and a painter, the other - a pragmatic scientist; fire and water. All their lives, they have to rely on each other: in the Soviet work camp, in the communist Russia and, after repatriation, in the capitalist Poland.
