People around the world get a chance to watch online four Polish documentaries from the KFF Sales & Promotion catalogue.
"21 x New York" is an intimate portrait of the city and its people. We meet the characters in the NYC subway and we follow them to the surface finding out about their lives, cravings, passions, hopes and dreams - sometimes lost and sometimes still waiting to be fulfilled. What comes out of it is an emotional tale of solitude that haunts us in the 21st century western world.
Piotr Stasik's film has been shown at over 20 festivals around the world and was nominated for the European Film Awards in the Best Documentary Film category.
Since August, thanks to the Filmin platform, it can be seen online by anyone in Spain and Andorra.
The second film available on Filmin is "The Gift" by Przemysław Kamiński.
The film protagonist is Yuriy who can walk barefoot on live embers, hypnotise people and put them into a deep sleep as well as help heavy smokers to cough out tar. But when he stops performing the profession of a miracle worker, he removes his theatrical makeup and takes on the role of a loving son who tries to live his life with an old father, at the same time mourning the death of his mother. Who is Yuriy when he enters the stage among the enchanted audience and who does he become when he returns to his native Ukraine, the very centre of the Orthodox world?
Not only audiences from Spain and Andorra are able to watch Kamiński's movie – all that thanks to Weipix, Pantaflix and Filmdoo, platforms where "The Gift", "The Internal Ear" and "Walking Spark" are available.
The film “The Internal Ear” poses questions related to the nature of improvisation. The protagonist of the film is Mikolaj Trzaska - saxophonist, bass clarinet player, harmonica player and composer. His artistic biography, an independent path he has been pursuing in an uncompromising way, is both the starting point of the film and the storyline bonding together multilevel narrative of the documentary. Trzaska is undoubtedly one of the greatest personas of the Polish jazz music scene. Trzaska’s artistic work is a universal theme since it is characterised by a specific to artistic disposition anxiety and ambivalence: relentless search for a self-aware language and losing yourself as the necessary means of immersing yourself in the music element.
The main protagonist of "Walking Spark" is a multidimensional character: a gangster who tries to be a good man. However in his case it is not that simple. Up till this moment all his life he has been inflicting suffering and instilling fear. Piotr, is a 45 years old former member of Warsaw mafia, who after being released from prison, decides to try and change himself for the better. He claims he wants to atone for his former sins and takes his first legal job at the hospice. We watch the protagonist, who takes his first steps into normal society, overcoming his inhibitions and struggling with his weaknesses. By the end of the film we are left with a question: will Piotr adjust to his new life rooted in significantly different values? And will his transformation last?
