This year's program of the international documentary film competition at Warsaw Film Festival includes two Polish productions. "The Agony" by Tomasz Knittel and "Going for Gold" by Ksawery Szczepanik will compete for the awards.

Warsaw Film Festival was established in 1985, and in 2009 it entered the elite group of events, accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (www.fiapf.org) as international competition film festivals - next to festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno , San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Tokyo, Moscow, Mar del Plata, Montreal, Shanghai, Cairo, Goa and Tallinn.

During the festival, films compete against each other in five different competitions: the International Competition, the 1-2 Competition, the Free Spirit Competition, as well as Documentary and Short Films. We have already learned the list of films applying for the title of the best documentary this year. Among them, there are two Polish films.

"Going for Gold", directed by Ksawery Szczepanik, is the story of Władysław Kozakiewicz, an outstanding pole-vaulter, gold medalist at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. The author of the famous “Kozakiewicz gesture” which influenced his further career. A universal story about the price and nature of success.

On the other hand, "The Agony", directed by Tomasz Knittel, is an exhilarating journey in search of the disappearing tradition of passing music orally, without notes. We see her world through the eyes of the charismatic singer and instrumentalist Adam Strug.

This year's edition of the festival is to be held on October 9-18.
