ITALIAN DISTRIBUTION OF THE DOCUMENTARY “THE GUEST”
The documentary "The Guest", directed by Zuzanna Solakiewicz and Zvika Gregory Portnoy, is currently distributed in Italy. The film has been selected for the prestigious Mondovisioni 2025–2026 programme, curated by CineAgenzia in collaboration with the Internazionale magazine.
As part of this nationwide initiative, six carefully chosen documentaries are screened throughout the year in cinemas across Italy in the form of special event screenings. The Guest is featured in this year’s selection along with some of the most significant European documentaries addressing pressing social issues, human rights, and contemporary politics.
For several years, Mondovisioni. I Documentari di Internazionale has introduced Italian audiences to uncompromising stories that illuminate the complexities of the modern world. Screened in their original language versions with subtitles, the films are selected from major international festivals and screened in Italy exclusively as part of the programme.
At the same time, The Guest continues its international festival run. Later in January the film will be screened in Switzerland as part of the 27th edition of the Black Movie Festival in Geneva. It will also receive its Belgian premiere at the 16th Tournai Ramdam Festival, where it has been selected for the documentary competition.
The film explores the humanitarian crisis on the Poland–Belarus border, which was sealed off in 2021 and transformed into a forbidden zone. At its heart lies an intimate relationship between a Polish family and a young Syrian refugee trapped in a political deadlock. Avoiding sensationalism, the filmmakers focus on emotions, mounting tension, and the ethical dilemmas faced by their protagonists, while also capturing the dramatic reality of the border crisis and the quiet, everyday acts of solidarity.
