Polish titles are shaping up to make a serious mark at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (5–15 March) – one of Europe’s foremost documentary festivals as well as an Academy Award-qualifying event. Two films have been selected for the main competition: "Candidates of Death" by Maciej Cuske, which will enjoy its world premiere in Thessaloniki, and "Closure" by Michał Marczak. Meanwhile, "The Queen and the Smokehouse" by Iga Lis, and two co-productions - "Traces" and "The Ground Beneath Our Feet" will screen in the Open Horizon section.

Natalia Koniarz's "Silver" has been awarded the Documentary Feature Grand Jury Prize at this year's Slamdance festival, where it received its American premiere. It's yet another significant triumph for a film that, following a string of accolades garnered in Kraków and Ji.hlava, both confirms and anticipates its formidable standing on the global map of documentary cinema.

The documentary film “Letters From Wolf Street”, directed by Arjun Talwar and selected among the eight titles in the Main Competition of the 23rd edition of the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the USA, won one of the event’s most important awards – Best Artistic Vision Feature.

The Krakow Film Festival and the Polish Documentary Film Directors Guild have established the Marcel Łoziński Documentary Award – a distinction for filmmakers who, like the award’s patron, boldly push the boundaries of documentary cinema. In a world dominated by algorithms and ready-made formats, the prize recognises films that defy convention, steadfast in their honesty and creative vision.
