ATIJAT, THE FIRST WIFE
POLISH TITLE: ATIJAT, PIERWSZA ŻONA
„Atijat, the first wife” is a portrait of Sudanese family and social relations there. After several years of marriage, the main protagonist learns that her husband is looking for a new wife. Reconciled with his intentions and reality of life, she tells Anne, the film’s director, her painful story. In the background of Atijat’s story, there are conversations of Sudanese men and women, in which Anne takes an active part, getting to know the truth about Sudanese beauty canons, the phenomenon of polygamy – difficult for women and funny for men, as well as the shocking tradition of circumcision for young girls.

was born in 1981 in Łodź. She graduated in Animation and Special Effects from Polish National Film School in Łódź and completed European Animation Masteclass in Halle (Germany). She directs animation films, her debut “Caracas” (2006) was awarded at many international film festivals. She also makes video clips and visualizations. Between 2009 and 2011 she had been character animator in Polish feature-length animation “George the Hedgehog”. Besides animation, she is successful book and press illustrator (for example in “WPROST” magazine).
