APRIL FESTIVALS
In April new Polish documentaries will be presented in Made in Poland programme at Hot Docs festival but this is not the only festivals’ appearance of Polish docs. This month almost thirty titles will be screened at nearly twenty international festivals.
A review of documentaries produced by the Polish Television will be part of the programme of the 31st International Film Festival in Uruguay that began on March 23rd and will last until April 6th. Three documentaries will be shown in the review: “The Argentinean lesson” by Wojciech Staroń, “Entangled” by Lidia Duda and “Mundial. The highest stakes” by Michał Bielawski – screened in Palm Springs as an international premiere. „Spring, summer, fall” by Piotr Złotorowicz will be screened in the Panorama section of the festival. Curiously, „Entangled”, „Mundial. The highest stakes” and “The Argentinean lesson” will also take part in the competitive section of the very same festival. Apart from the above mentioned also “Declaration of immortality” by Marcin Koszałka and “Heaven” by Jan P. Matuszyński will compete for the trophies of the festival.
American audience will have several opportunities to watch Polish documentaries this April. „The Convesation” by Piotr Sułkowski will be screened in the competition of Visions Film Festival while “Paper box” by Zbigniew Czapla and “The Palace” by Tomasz Wolski have been selected to non-competitive sections of Ann Arbor Film Festival and Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Grzegorz Zariczny will have a chance to compete for next awards with his documentary „The Whistle”. The film will be shown in the competitive sections of Florida Film Festival, Sundance London Film and Music Festival and It’s All True Film Festival held in Brasil. In the competition of the last one „The Whistle” will have a Polish competitor – „The loneliness of sound” by Jacek Piotr Bławut.
The above mentioned „The Argentinean lesson” has been selected to the competition of Panazorean International Film Festival taking place in the remote Azores archipelago. “Resettlement” by Filip Antoni Malinowski will compete for prizes much closer – at the German Festival of Central and Eastern European Films GoEast. In the same time British audience will have an opportunity to watch “My house without me” by Magdalena Szymków. The film will take part in the competition of Bradford International Film Festival.
The end of the month looks particularly interesting. “Art of disappearing” by Bartek Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski will be screened in the competitive section of Swiss festival Visions du Reel and “Freestyle life” by Adam Palenta – in the competition of 4th BCN Sport Film Festival. In Trento (Italy) “Exit point” directed by Jagoda Szelc will contest for awards of 61st Trento Film Festival while „Dream of San Juan” by Joaquin del Paso and Jan Paweł Trzaska as well as “Hermits” by Kacper Czubak will be shown in non-competitive sections of the very same festival. “3 days of freedom” by Łukasz Borowski will take part in the out of competition section of 23rd MEDIAWAVE International Film and Music Gathering in Hungary.
The Canadian festival Hot Docs will also begin in the last decade of April. Ten Polish documentaries will be shown in the Made in Poland programme: “A dream in the making” by Bartosz M. Kowalski, “Man at war” by Jacek Bławut, “Exit point” by Jagoda Szelc, “Free the butterfly” by Joanna Frydrych, “Galumphing” by Kamila Józefowicz, “Entangled” by Lidia Duda, “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski, “The Conversation” by Piotr Sułkowski, “The man who made angels fly” by Wiktoria Szymańska and “Emperor’s toys” by Joanna Wójcik, Joanna Rusinek, Jarosław Moździerz, Tomasz Godfryd and Grzegorz Wierzchowski. “Fuck for Forest” by Michał Marczak will be screened in the Nightvision programme.
