"Another World" by Dorota Kędzierzawska - a documentary portrait of Danuta Szaflarska - won the Eagle award in the Best Documentary Film category. Kazimierz Karabasz was awarded the Life Achievement award.

The awards ceremony of Polish Film Awards Eagles 2014 took place on 10 March in Polish Theatre in Warsaw. The statuettes of the Eagle were given for the sixteenth time, but it is only the second time when documentary films also competed for the award. The Best Documentary Film award was given by the Polish Film Academy to Dorota Kędzierzawska for "Another World." "Love" by Filip Dzierżawski and "Father and Son" by Paweł Łoziński were also nominated for the same award.

The main protagonist of "Another World," Danuta Szaflarska, is an outstanding Polish actress. In the film, she tells the story of “another world”, no longer existing, which has shaped her. Danuta Szaflarska, who is now 99 years old, recalls various events from different stages of her life with a lot of humour, warmth and distance, and at the same time leads the viewer through her own life and the history of twentieth century. The fascinating story of Szaflarska is complemented by black and white cinematography by Artur Reinhart.

This year, Kazimierz Karabasz, an outstanding Polish documentary filmmaker and the co-creator of Polish school of documentary cinema was also awarded at the Eagles ceremony. He received the Life Achievement Award. The first films by Karabasz, such as the ones made in cooperation with Władysław Ślesicki, "Where the Devil Says Goodnight" and "People From an Empty Zone" are parts of the so-called "black series." Later, Karabasz won renown as the creator of aesthetic documentary doctrine, later called the school of Karabasz, which was in favour of detailed observation of the world around and lack of staging. One of the best known and most frequently awarded film by Karabasz, "The Musicians" - was made in accordance with this artistic manifesto. Kazimierz Karabasz is the first documentary film maker in the history of Polish Film Awards who received the Eagle award in the Life Achievement category.

It is worth adding that Danuta Szaflarska, the protagonist of the award-winning "Another World" received the Life Achievement award last year.
