POLISH SHORT FILMS IN SHORT FILM CORNER
Though two short films are in the centre of this year's interest in the Cannes festival, namely, the animated film "Blue Room" by Tomasz Siwiński (Semaine de la Critique section) and a fiction film "Fragments" by Aga Woszczyńska (Directors’ Fortnight), it is worth remembering about other films that will be watched by film professionals visiting the Short Film Corner. As many as 35 films await people interested in Polish cinema.
Just like every year Short Film Corner will feature special programms of Lodz Film School, Munk Studio and Krakow Film Foundation. The programme prepared by Lodz Film School incudes fiction film "Constellations" by Aniela Gabryel, the documentary film "My brother’s life" by Katarzyna Lesisz and animated film "An Incredibly Elastic Man" by Karolina Specht. Munk Studio, operating with the structures of Polish Filmmakers Association, boasts the short fiction film by Paweł Orwat, entitled "The Boys" and "Father's Day" by Kacper Lisowski as well as documentary "A Visit" by Matej Bobrik. Lastly, Polish Shorts programme composed by Krakow Film Foundation features twelve films, including "To Thy Heart" by Ewa Borysewicz, "The Mother" by Łukasz Ostalski and the graduation film by Arek Biedrzycki, entitled "You Keep An Eye On Us".Short Film Corner also features numerous films by debuting filmmakers. Among them, there are: the psychological drama "Island of Happiness" by Martyna Iwańska, starring Anna Romantowska, and "Portrait" by Wojciech Tubaja, made with the participation of an impressive cast of stars of Polish cinema. In the programme, there are also: 15-minute film "The Last Waltz" by Maciej Kawalski - starring Zbigniew Zamachowski, as well as "Genesi" by Jaweł Jaskólski, made in English-Italian-Polish co-production, "April March" by Filip Kasperaszek - co-produced by Poland, the USA and China and Polish-French "Le nouveau locataire” by Marek Nurzyński. It is worth to mention a short documentary by Ilona Bizdan, entitled "SM" - a story of people suffering from multiple sclerosis, who, in spite of the illness, do not forgo pursuing their dreams. Also, the 7-minute film "Nikisz Haze" by Bartosz Bobkowski is worth mentioning. The film is the winning project, made within the frames of the first edition of 48 Hours Film Project in Katowice.
Short Film Corner is one of the most prestigious events dedicated to short film in the world. Every year in May at the Cannes Film Festival there are meetings of the representatives of the most important distributing companies, sales agents, producers and festival programmers from around the world. A film's participation in Short Film Corner enables it to gain recognition on the international arena.
