"PIANO" AWARDED AT MEDIAWAVE
On May 1, ended another edition of the festival MediaWave. Among the award-winners, there is the film "Piano" by Vita Maria Drygas.
This year, the 26th edition of MediaWave was held. It is a Hungarian festival dedicated to film and music. The jury, consisting of the Belgian documentary film director Zlatina Rousseva, the Romanian animated film director Radu Igazság and the Hungarian film critic Balázs Varga, granted the best documentary film award to the film "Piano" by Vita Maria Drygas.
"Piano" tells the story about a piano, rescued by a music conservatory student, which was intended to strengthen the construction of the barricades on Ukrainian Maidan, but it became a participant and the symbol of the revolution. The instrument united the fates of the film's protagonists, each of whom had to face a different choice, wanting to take their rightful place in the dramatic conflict with dignity.
Soon after, the piano united also the protesters on Maidan, who, regardless of frost and snow, day and night sang together the national anthem of Ukraine and poignant folk songs. The instrument turned out to be more dangerous than bottles with Molotov cocktail. The authorities called the musicians "piano extremists."
It is worth reminding that last year Vita Maria Drygas also received an award at MediaWave. Her film "Knife in the Wife" was chosen the best short documentary film.
