"TWO WORLDS" WINS THE GRAND PRIZE AT THE FLICKERS’ RHODE ISLAND IFF
The film "Two Worlds," directed by Maciej Adamek, won the Grand Prix for the Best Feature Documentary Film at the 20th edition of the festival Flickers' Rhode Island IFF.
The festival Flickers' Rhode Island, which celebrated its 20th edition this year, was held from August 9 to 14. In the programme of the festival, 273 films from 67 countries were shown. The closing gala was held last Sunday, August 14, in Metcalf Auditorium, RISD Museum in Providence. The film by Maciej Adamek, "Two Worlds," was awarded the Grand Prize for the Best Feature Documentary Film.
"Two Worlds" is a portrait of deaf mute parents and their twelve-year-old daughter. Every day, Laura plays the roles of the mouth and ears for her father and mother, helping them in practical activities, such as buying coal. In the film, she also functions as a medium which introduces the viewer into the ordinary matters of the disabled, with a lot of empathy. She is not only the narrator, but also the vessel of emotions which would not find their way into the world of the hearing without her.
It is worthwhile to mention that at the same festival, in the short film category, the film by Daria Woszek, "The Dogcatcher," was awarded.
