"THE TOWN THAT DROVE AWAY" WINS AWARD IN GREECE

The documentary by Grzegorz Piekarski and Natalia Pietsch has won the hearts of audiences at the Ierapetra International Documentary and Film Festival, who bestowed their audience award upon the film.

The Ierapetra Film Festival is an international event held annually in Crete. It promotes independent cinema, with a particular focus on documentary, short, and animated films. The festival is famous for its welcoming atmosphere and networking opportunities. Ierapetra has established itself as a significant place on the European film festival circuit, providing vital support to emerging, promising filmmakers.

Awarded by the audience, The Town That Drove Away by Grzegorz Piekarski and Natalia Pietsch is set in the historic village of Hasankeyf. This Kurdish settlement is relocated following plans to construct a hydroelectric dam. The raw beauty of the Anatolian landscape frames demolished buildings – a site of a political game that demands obedience and submission. When everything disappears, only a bitter and disquieting sense of dignity remains.
