"LETTERS FROM WOLF STREET" WINS AWARD AT FIFDH

The film Letters from Wolf Street, directed by Arjun Talwar was among the prizewinners at this year's edition of FIFDH – the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Geneva, which was held from 6 to 15 March 2026. The film received the FIFDH Gilda Vieira De Mello Award.

FIFDH is an international event dedicated to cinema and human rights, held annually in Geneva. The festival's distinctive format is built upon the principle of “one film, one topic, one debate”, pairing screenings with discussions involving filmmakers and subject experts.

Commenting on this year's verdict, the festival's editorial directors, Laila Alonso Huarte and Laura Longobardi, remarked: “This year’s awards reflect the diversity of voices that FIFDH brings to the fore. These films shed light on realities too often overlooked and open up powerful new perspectives. We are proud to celebrate works that inspire courage and give voice to those too often unheard.”

Organisers described the award-winning Letters from Wolf Street “offers an intimate account of the migrant experience and the invisible borders erected by everyday racism”. Made on a small budget but with great care, Letters from Wolf Street is a nuanced, sophisticated and highly accessible film about grief and belonging. Far from his native India, Arjun Talwar confronts his own loneliness by building close relationships with neighbours in Warsaw. Through these encounters, he reveals everyday racism and the barriers to acceptance faced by migrants and long-standing Polish minorities alike. Both revealing and tender, it portrays community, alienation, and the search for one's place in the world.

This year's FIFDH competitions also featured other Polish contributions: Silver by Natalia Koniarz and Traces, directed by Alisa Kovalenko and Marysia Nikitiuk.
