PIOTR PAWLUS'S “DEATH IN THE MAKING” TO COMPETE AT VISIONS DU RÉEL

The latest film by Piotr Pawlus, Death in the Making, has been selected for the official programme of Visions du Réel – one of the world's most significant documentary film festivals. It will be screened in the International Feature Film Competition, with its world premiere scheduled for this year's edition, taking place from 17th to 26th April 2026 in Nyon.

In his new film, Piotr Pawlus returns to the experience of the war in Ukraine, where he previously engaged as a volunteer, transporting aid supplies from Poland and evacuating civilians. This time, he turns his camera towards the lives and suffering of Ukrainian residents and the devastation wrought by the full-scale Russian invasion. During his journey across the country – from villages and urban shelters in danger to the front line – he records testimonies from civilians, volunteers, and soldiers. Whilst the camera has not captured the events themselves, the film gathers their traces through witnesses' accounts. What remains on screen are ruins, while the voices of those who remember their earlier lives echo with the memories of lost peace over the images of war.

Death in the Making is a co-production between Poland and the Netherlands. The film's producers include Ruoyao Jane Yao / Vines Films, alongside Mateusz Budnik, Monika Jakutowicz, Bart Putkiewicz and Piotr Pawlus.
