"COMMUNION" WINS IN JAPAN
On October 12th the closing ceremony of the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival took place in Japan. The main award went to the film "Communion" by Anna Zamecka.
It was the 15th edition of the festival. Over 1700 films from 128 countries and regions of the world were submitted to the competitions, including over 1100 submitted to the international one. From this number only 15 documentaries were selected to the international competition. The main award - The Robert and Frances Flaherty Prize – in this section was given to "Communion" directed by Anna Zamecka.
"Communion" tells the story of a 14 years old girl, Ola, who takes care of her dysfunctional father, autistic brother and a mother who lives separately; but most of all she tries to reunite the family. She lives in the hope of bringing her mother back home. Her 13 years old brother Nikodem’s Holy Communion is a pretext for the family to meet up. Ola is entirely responsible for preparing the perfect family celebration. Nikodem is watching his family's struggle from his own, exceptional perspective.
"Communion" also joined the prestigious group of 15 films recommended for the awards of the European Film Academy. The members of the Academy can vote and select the movies that will secure the nomination until October 18th.
