IMAGO AWARDS FOR POLISH FILMMAKERS
On October 28th the IMAGO International Awards for Cinematography were handed out in Helsinki. A Polish representative among the winning films was "Icon", directed by Wojciech Kasperski, awarded for Łukasz Żal’s cinematography.
During the official ceremony in Helsinki the IMAGO Award for Best Cinematography in Documentary Film went to Łukasz Żal for the film "Icon" directed by Wojciech Kasperski. The jury consisted of: Pirjo Honkasalo, Robert Berghoff, Peter Zeitlinger, Andreas Fischer-Hansen, Pieter De Vries and Paul Rene Roestad.
”Icon” shows a psychiatric hospital in the Siberian countryside. The place, which so far was inaccessible for film crews, can be shown thanks to its residents, some of whom spent several decades at the hospital. This discreet and, at the same time, insightful observation of the patients’ daily lives transforms into meditation on the human nature, which is not entirely penetrable.
The full list of the winners can be found at the website of the IMAGO Awards.
