POLISH DOCUMENTARY HOME MOVIE AWARDED SUNDANCE INSTITUTE GRANT

The documentary project Home Movie, directed by Anu Czerwiński and produced by Anna Stylińska and Katarzyna Ślesicka (My Way Studio), has been selected as one of 14 films to receive a production grant from the prestigious Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program. The project stood out among a record number of submissions from around the world, marking an exceptional recognition for the Polish team.

In total, 32 projects have been awarded support through the 2025 Sundance Documentary Fund, with a collective granting pool exceeding $1.5 million. The grants, awarded at every stage of the filmmaking process, include seven projects in development, 14 in production, 10 in post-production, and one completed film in its impact campaign. The program aims to strengthen global nonfiction storytelling on urgent and timely issues that drive cultural and social change.

Home Movie is a deeply personal story by transgender filmmaker Anu, who has hidden his identity from his closest family for many years. During visits to his family home, he shaves his beard and assumes the role of Ania – the beloved daughter and sister. To confront his fear of rejection, he turns the camera on himself and his relatives, crafting an intimate portrait of family bonds and a universal story about connection and acceptance.
