POLISH FILMMAKER ON HER WAY TO GRIERSON AWARD

“Dylan” directed by Ania Winiarska has been nominated for one of the most prestigious awards for documentary films – the Grierson Awards.

The Grierson Awards which commemorate the pioneer of Scottish documentary filmmaking - John Grierson (1898 – 1972) are presented to documentaries that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.

The Grierson Awards employ a two-stage judging process. The first one is the selection of around eight films from eleven categories. These shortlisted films will then be judged by juries comprising five people, mainly drawn from documentary makers, broadcasters, critics and subject experts. They will decide on the final four nominations, including the winner, in each category. This year’s award ceremony will be held on 1st November.

Among shortlisted films there is one Polish documentary filmmaker, Ania Winiarska. Her film “Dylan” was produced by National Film and Television School in London.

“Dylan” identifies a hopeless landscape in which childhood resilience shines through all that inopportunity can devalue and destroy. Lost in a community without aspiration it’s hard to imagine what Dylan will do next.
