POLISH DOCUMENTARIES WIN IN KIEV

There is nobody to beat Polish documentary filmmakers! Two Polish documentaries were listed among the laureates of 9th International Documentary Film Festival Docudays in Kiev scoring the two top prizes of the competition.

“Argentinian lesson” by Wojciech Staroń proved the best of the Docu/Life section while “We will be happy one day” directed by Paweł Wysoczański beat his rivals in the Docu/ Short competition. There were five Polish films screened in the competitive sections of the festival (apart from the winners - "Palnet Kirsan" by Magadalena Pieta, "Doctors" by Tomasz Wolski and "La Machina" by Thierry Paladino) while another four were presented as a part of two special programms selected by Krakow Film Festival. Also two Polish delegates were present in Kiev – Krzysztof Gierat was invited to join the jury while Jacek Bławut run the film workshop.

Polish cinema again proved to be in an excellent shape. A famous Russian-Ukrainian filmmaker Walery Bałajan said that we are now witnessing a significant rise of the Polish documentary school.

Wojciech Staroń’s film, that is a beautifully shot story of two children, continues its run of good luck initiated with five awards at last year’s festivals in Krakow, Leipzig, Minsk, Florence and Guangzhou.

Paweł Wysoczański’s film is a riveting tale of a Silesian boy who decides to shoot his first film. It is a resposable task as his first viewer and critic will be his grandmother, who for many years now is has been taking care of the boy abandoned by his parents. Film will be screened at the upcoming 52nd edition of Krakow Film Festival.
