The latest documentary by Aneta Popiel-Machnicka “Sometimes I dream I’m flying” – the first Polish documentary to participate in the Documentary Competition at the Slamdance Festival – has been recognised by the festival jury. The film has been awarded for its cinematography by Michał Popiel-Machnicki with the Blackmagic Design Cinematography Award – a special prize granted by Blackmagic Design, company producing professional video equipment. The award includes the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and a 4-week accessory rental package from Abelcine.
The protagonist of “Sometimes I dream I’m flying” - Weronika, is a talented and very ambitious ballet dancer. Her ballet career and education, including ups and downs, make a documentary treaty on beauty and its fragility. The most important elements of this sophisticated picture are emotions and the message.
Slamdance Film Festival is one of largest independent film festivals on the world. It is held in Park City, Utah, since 1995. The first edition of the festival was organised by a group of subversive filmmakers, whose films had not been accepted by the Sundance festival. They felt the need to show their films, so they organised a festival with the motto “by filmmakers for filmmakers.” During twenty years of its history, the festival opened the road to fame for such directors as Christopher Nolan, Marc Forster, Jared Hess, Oren Peli, Benh Zeitlin, Seth Gordon, Lynn Sheltona or Lena Dunham.
