DOCUMENTARY FILMS AT THE FESTIVALS IN MAY
In the hot month of May, Polish documentary films do not travel through the world as much as they used to, however, they still have a chance to win some prestigious awards. See where the Polish productions appear this month.
The festival Hot Docs, which started in April, is a place where one can see a couple of Polish documentary films: "Before the dawn" by Łukasz Borowski, "Last Season" by Sławomir Witek and "Brothers" by Wojciech Staroń. The last one will also appear in the competition at the festival DocVille in Belgium. DocumentaMadrid, another festival which started in April, is the one at which "Snails" by Grzegorz Szczepaniak will compete for awards, whereas at Trento Film Festival, films dealing with the subject matter of the mountains will be shown, among others, "Jurek" by Paweł Wysoczański, "K2. Touching the Sky" by Eliza Kubarska and "The Place" by Julia Popławska.
To the end of the world, as far as to Shanghai, to A Long Week Of Short Film, the documentary film "The End of the World" by Monika Pawluczuk will come, and together with it, "Snails," "The Island" by Natalia Krasilnikowa and "Alarm Clock" by Piotr Małecki. On the other hemisphere, at Claremont Film Festival in the USA, at the same time, the audience will see "Piano" by Vita Maria Drygas, and in California, at The Fine Arts Film Fest Venice, they will watch "Kantor's Circle," directed by Adrianna and Iwo Książek.
In Europe, however, there will be two competition screenings of "The Dybbuk. A Tale of Wandering Souls" by Krzysztof Kopczyński. First, it will appear at Niesse Film Festival in Germany, and later, together with "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec, it will be shown to the audience at Wales Documentary Film Festival. The animated film by Podolec will also feature at the Rooftop Film Festival in the USA.
Two screenings in May are also in store for "Casa Blanca" by Aleksandra Maciuszek, the documentary film will visit Turkey at TRT Documentary Days and Ecuador within the frames of the competition at the festival EDoc. At the end of the month, Polish documentary films will also appear in Austria: at VIS Vienna Independent Shorts we will see "The Place" and "Figure" by Katarzyna Gondek.
On May 29, begins the 56th edition of Krakow Film Festival. In the international competition, there are four Polish documentary films: "Alisa in Warland" by Alisa Kovalenko and Liubova Durakowa, "21 x New York City" by Piotr Stasik, "Borderline Miracles" by Tomasz Jurkowski and "Icon" by Wojciech Kasperski.
