„CHEMO” – THE BEST DOCUMENTARY AT FIDADOC IN MOROCCO

One of the most successful Polish documentary in recent times – “Chemo” by Paweł Łoziński, once again won the prize at the International Documentary Festival FIDADOC in Morocco.

“For the skill of presenting the suffering with great sensibility and calmness, for the originality of treatment, for the cinematographic  force and the high regard towards the protagonists” – this is the statement of FIDADOC festival’s jury members who awarded the Grand Prix to Paweł Łoziński’s Chemo. The third edition of the International Documentary Festival FIDADOC took place in Agadir, Morocco, from 9th to 13th of November.

Chemo is a group por­trait of the Warsaw onco­lo­gical hos­pital patients. The prot­ag­on­ists, tak­ing con­sec­ut­ive doses of chemo, talk about every­day issues, their favour­ite dishes, wed­ding dresses, but also about their plans for the future, dreams, fear and anxi­ety. As FIDADOC’s jury said, this is the film plenty of sensitivity, however, being at the distance on the issue. There is no pomposity, no pretentiousness, no exaggeration, no comments. There is no element from hospital reality. We watch only faces – presented in gentle, close, but also influential way. This influence is the essence of the human being’s truth.
